Melbourne Town hALL
Melbourne, Australia
EOI CLOSED SUCCESSFULLY MAY 2023
Located on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin, Melbourne Town Hall is a magnificent heritage building and a significant landmark in the heart of the city.
The iconic building is a place where many city-shaping decisions have been made. Today it is also a hub for Melbourne’s cultural and civic activity – playing host to live music performances, weddings, receptions, community gatherings, exhibitions and more.
Reserved by Government in 1837, the site was issued as a Crown Grant to the Corporation of Melbourne in June 1849 as a site for a Town Hall. Construction of the existing Melbourne Town Hall began in 1867, with the portico added in 1887 and the inclusion of the Administration Building being constructed in 1908.
Melbourne Town Hall continues to be a key gathering and meeting place for the people of Melbourne and the broader State of Victoria. To ensure the building remains active and accessible, it must continue to support Melbourne’s community and cultural development through the attraction of a broad range of events, festivals, conferences, concerts, galas and public forums.
Spanning over 4 floors, encompassing 4 kitchens and 10 function/events spaces and covering 11,500m2, Melbourne Town Hall presents considerable opportunity to a range of individual organisations or consortia seeking to deliver catering, events and venue management services on an exclusive basis within this building.

We are inviting proposals from industry leaders, organisations and consortia who have the capacity to deliver a future-focused solution for Melbourne Town Hall that encompasses:
Catering
Events Management & Activation
Venue Management
We see great potential in this being managed via a catering services agreement on a 5+5 year term, and are open to hearing from local and/or national businesses who share a similar vision for this asset. As a multi-faceted venue, we believe there is significant untapped potential that can be unlocked through a range of prospective usages, bookable events and activations.
While it is anticipated that the majority of activities will remain catering and events focused, the City of Melbourne is excited to hear from industry as to how they believe the venue can be activated frequently and is accessible to all Melburnians.
We seek a creative partner to bring a new perspective to Melbourne Town Hall, establishing a functions and events business that includes ticketed, private, community and social events throughout the year.
Current usage of Melbourne Town Hall includes catering to high end functions, keynote events, weddings, conferences, concerts, performances, galas, civic functions and community events.
Maximisation and activation of all spaces within Melbourne Town Hall will be crucial to engage with a wider and more diverse audience – generating greater financial outcomes for all stakeholders.
With an enviable amount of beautiful and flexible spaces that the future partner will be responsible for selling, booking and coordinating, we are seeking a partner who shares the vision to drive maximum activation for the future.
Commencing from 1 July 2024, the successful partner will be instrumental in attracting a range of suitable commercial opportunities for Melbourne Town Hall, which will ensure the building remains a vibrant event and experience space for years to come.
